NXSW: The Blending of New York and New Mexico Femme Style

As a native New Mexican, I am always drawn to the colors of the Southwest.

I didn’t come into my style until I moved to New York, but I try to incorporate inspiration from my hometown into the mostly dark urban wardrobe that I’ve built since moving to the Big Apple.

At the end of last summer, I was given this amazing polka-dot dress by as a gift and instantly fell in love with the design and fit. It blends refined East Coast sophistication with two of the amazingly happy and bright SW colors that remind me of home. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to wear it in New York before it turned cold. So, when I was invited to Albuquerque to attend my niece’s graduation, I knew I had to debut it in New Mexico.

To my delight, LuzMarina Serrano, Qwear writer and member of the Jack Tar 207 collective, contacted me to inform me that she would like to meet up in Santa Fe! It was perfect: LuzMarina, a Queens fashion femme now living in Santa Fe meets Anita Dolce Vita, an Albuquerque fashion femme now living in NYC.

Our meeting was everything I had hoped for and more. We had a photo shoot featuring my NXSW dress; talked Qwear, Jack Tar 207, and dapperQ; and bonded over femme style and visibility at a café.  Queer. Heart. SWOONS!
