How to Wear: Mixed Prints

Hey there fellow Qwears, and welcome to How To Wear, a photo series aimed at providing inspiration for stylistically minded folks across the fashion spectrum.

So here’s the premise; take one common element and provide examples across different style expression, from dapper to ultra-casual, and everywhere in between. We will explore a multitude of themes including colors, textures, fabrics, and patterns to demonstrate how to incorporate them into the style of your choosing. See something you like? Put your twist on the idea and make it your own! Remember, if it feels good, wear it!

In our first installment, we’ve asked the How To Wear models to provide their interpretation of the theme of mixed patterns. From subtle and sophisticated to bold and bright, this group of friends highlights the ways that pattern play can fit into everyday style.

When putting my outfit together I was going for two different patterns that off set one another. I managed to slowly try patterns together and found that this one fit my personality well. A tip that I learned when dressing myself was that you can never go wrong with checkered pattern and boots together because the hardest part of my outfit was what shoes to wear.

What I’m Wearing:
Jeans: Hollister
White and grey pattern shirt: Tj Maxx
Checkered red and black button up: American Eagle
Leather & grey jacket: Rue 21
Boots: Target

I love patterns of all types on all different articles of clothing. I wanted to put together an outfit that allowed me to put as much pattern on display as I could! My biggest tip for mixing patterns and just fashion in general, wear it with confidence! If you wear it like you mean it, people will believe it!

What I’m Wearing:
Hoody: TACKMA Brand from Corporate, Cincinnati.
Pants: Gap
Shoes: Nike Kevin Durant "KD 7." "Black History Month" color way.

Demesha (Dee)

With this outfit my process was to mix patterns and stay within the same color scheme. If it looks good to you, wear it. Don't let the pattern intimidate you. It's all about confidence.

What I’m Wearing:
Shoes: G. H. Bass
Pants: Levi's 514
Watch: Relic - JCPenny
Shirt: H&M
Sweater: Brooklyn Calling - Aeropostale
Bowtie: Amazon

With this outfit I went for subtlety, pairing larger neutrals with the mixed patterns as a concentrated detail.

I typically like to keep the patterns within a similar color scheme.  The patterns can be subtle or bold, but I try to have at least one color that carries throughout.

What I'm Wearing:
Sweater: Merona (Target)
Button front shirt:  H&M
Tie: Ben Sherman (Nordstrom)
Watch:  Fossil
Jeans:  H&M
Shoes: Sperry Topsider (Thrifted)
