Pose S2 E6 Recap with Mojo: Love’s in Need of Love

Mojo’s Pose recap series which will be published every Wednesday after a new Pose episode has aired. Each recap concludes with “Heyy Friend”: an exclusive quote and behind-the-scenes wardrobe photos from someone on set. Spoilers ahead!

On this week’s episode we saw Preytell collapsing (à la Wendy Williams) due to his health issues with HIV/Aids.

As a person who has fainted in the past, I know first hand what it’s like to give it your all while ignoring those little signs that it’s about to go down. I felt that scene deep in my soul.

As Preytell recovered in the hospital he was visited by several ghosts including Candy, who tried to convince him to take his life (see last week’s recap on colorism in Pose); his step father, who molested him; and his lover, who died from the virus in season 1. Each ghost greatly impacted his mental state.

Meanwhile, Blanca, being the fab mother she is, took on the AIDS cabaret at the hospital and upped the ante this time raising $4,000, all while being secretly evicted from her nail shop by her landlady (Patti Lupone).

Bianca’s landlady offered to sing at the hospital as a distraction while her workers emptied Blanca’s shop. She even offered to take Blanca out for dinner to give her workers more time. Things like this is why I’m weary of rich white women.

The episode ended with all the houses getting together to protest the injustice faced by Blanca.

This episode highlighted the fact that queer folk, then and now, always have to fight for change! We are literally all we have. I’m thankful for the community in those regards. We may throw shade, but when it’s time to pull up, Black trans women are always on the front lines.

Heyyy Friend!

This week I caught up with B Hawk who has been a regular extra on the show since season one. This is what they had to say:

“For the first time I had the honor to sit next to Patti Lupone and had a front row seat to watch her perform during that scene. I was literally GAGGING! But I kept it cool and later had the blessing of getting a photo with her for my ‘POSE receipts.’”

And let's have a moment for these "Blair Reign Evangelista" Looks!! The hair, make-up and wardrobe team on Pose really SLAYED with these 3 looks. Even while people are dying and a war is breaking out within the community, we still have to look FIERCE of course. So Get Into IT!!
